S.A.C. (STYLES ACROSS CULTURES) is a student group developing extracurricular activities + research activities founded in 2007 by Nadia Morarasu and Camelia Cmeciu as the first research group for the students in English Language and Literature Studies of the Faculty of Letters from the University of Bacau.
Membership: any English speaking student interested in communicating interculturally “about, in and with style”
Statement of purpose:
Ø preparing students for the diversified world of communication, helping them to handle intercultural encounters;
Ø offering students the opportunity to engage in unconventional interactions with their peers;
Ø exposing them to the specific styles of performing different activities.
Proposed approaches/strategies
Ø Organizing meetings, thematic debates, discussion groups on topics agreed upon in advance;
Ø Engaging students in creative and academic writing activities, starting from a theme introduced and theorized by a specialist;
Ø Inviting guests/specialists in certain fields to present their opinion on the multiplicity of styles in that field (e.g. a stylist speaking of his/her job and express opinions of the relationship between personality and hairstyles etc);
Ø Role play with students impersonating representatives of varied cultures (even ancient ones) that would defend their own style of speaking, of writing, of dressing etc.
Possible outcome/s of these activities
Ø Students may get engaged in our research projects and in group activities;
Ø Supervised materials may be published in students'journals;
Ø Students may become more self-confident and willing to participate in conferences and symposia organized by other universities.
